Ana Lara:
Darkness Visible
(1998-99) for flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, viola, violoncello and double-bass
Composed 1998-1999 for flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, viola, violoncello and double-bass.

Darkness Visible is the title of William Styron's intimate book where he narrates how the shade of the depression is turning into his own enemy and takes it to the madness. In my piece I do not try to narrate Styron's interior trip but, rather, to penetrate into the sound through the timbre creating atmospheres; in the first movement like a great sonorous block where all the instruments play simultaneously and, in the second one, looking for the most personal timbre of every instrument.

This work has been commissioned by the Festival of the Historical Center for Onyx, New Ensamble of Mexico and had its premiere in 1999.
