Professor Bad Trip
Monday Evening Concerts regulars, the outstanding Argento Chamber Ensemble and Michel Galante open a box of surprises. A modern master creates an image of Icarus’s fall in a compact and dazzling concerto for clarinet. From the deeply ironic and subtle Gérard Pesson come three miniatures, and from Salvatore Sciarrino, heir to Italy’s cultural richness and lyricism, a nocturne returning to the clarinet, now unaccompanied. The big event is Fausto Romitelli’s Professor Bad Trip, fast becoming a modern classic. Psychedelic rock meets spectralism across a landscape of curdling colors while an electric guitar gently weeps.
