Artist Biography
Aaron Smith Trumpet
Aaron Smith (b. 1983) is a musician who is currently recognized for his talents as a virtuosic trumpet performer, improviser, instructor, and arranger. He is an active performer in the Los Angeles area progressively earning a reputation as an accomplished and versatile musician performing contemporary solo literature for trumpet, orchestral works, jazz and commercial sets, brass concerts, and various studio recording sessions. He has appeared as a guest solo artist at the 2006 International Trumpet Guild Conference, as guest 2nd trumpet for the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, and various Los Angeles recording studios including affiliates of BMG and Paramount studios.

In addition to freelancing in the Los Angeles area, Smith is currently earning a Masters of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts where he studies with distinguished trumpet pedagogue, Edward Carroll. He also takes advantage of the opportunity of performing with and learning from musical entities such as Vinny Golia, David Roitstein, and John Fumo whom all frequent the Cal Arts campus.Smith earned a Bachelor's degree in trumpet performance from the Eastman School of Music amid the world-renowned tutelage of James Thompson. While at Eastman, he was featured in recital as a "Rising Star" by James Thompson and performed with the Eastman Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. During his time in Rochester, Smith performed in a variety of ensembles including orchestras, wind ensembles, brass ensembles, contemporary music groups, off-Broadway theatre, and recitals. During the summers of his Eastman tenure he attended the Lake Placid trumpet seminar as well as the Music Academy of the West.

He grew up in the small town of Hinesville, Georgia, where he first discovered his passion for music. At age 16, Smith was awarded first prize in the Savannah Symphony Concerto Competition and performed the Johann Nepomuk Hummel Trumpet Concerto with the orchestra. In high school he acted as principal trumpet in Savannah Civic Orchestra, Georgia Allstate, and district honor bands. As a high school senior, Smith moved to Michigan to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy where he studied with Stanley Friedman. The same year, Smith was appointed Associate Principal Trumpet of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.
