Christian Dierstein studied under Bernhard Wulff at the Freiburg Musikhochschule and under Gaston Sylvestre in Paris; winner of numerous competitions, holder of a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and the Akademie Schloß Solitude Stuttgart; together with Marcus Weiss and Yukiko Sugawara he formed the Trio accanto; focus on non-European music and free improvisation; solo concerts throughout Europe in the Rising Stars series; own compositions for radio plays and theatre; radio and CD recordings; head of the percussion class at the Musikhochschule in Basel; member of the ensemble recherche since 1988.
