Artist Biography
Ian Carroll Trombone
Ian Carroll is a trombonist, composer, and teacher currently residing in San Diego, completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of California San Diego. Ian Carroll also holds a Bachelors of Music Performance from the University of Louisville, Kentucky and a Masters of Fine Arts in Music from the California Institute of the Arts. He has studied and played alongside artists such as James Miller, Vinny Golia, Ulrich Krieger, Susie Allen, Wadada Leo Smith, and Mark Dresser. Ian’s personal projects include experimental metal ensembles such as Tinhorn Justice and Mancuerda, an avant garde jazz group called Dirty Squid, and an experimental electro-acoustic ensemble known as the New Brutalists.
