Artist Biography
Brian Archinal percussion
With sound as his compass, percussionist Brian Archinal fuses musical diversity, passion, expression, and creativity to form a unique approach to new and experimental music. Currently he is performing with red fish blue fish, the ensemble in residence at UCSD in La Jolla, CA.
Brian has ad the opportunity to perform across America, as well as Canada, Mexico, and Europe and Asia. He has performed at: the Lucerne Festival, Carlsbad Music Festival, Los Angeles Monday Evening Concerts, the WRFL 88.1 FreeKY Festival, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and the Del Mar Summer Concert Series; previous performances with: Real Quiet, So Percussion, Stewart Copeland, the Lexington Philharmonic, and the La Jolla Symphony. He has also been a featured artist/educator at Northeastern University’s “NU-FAX” summer program of contemporary music, the Music for All Summer Symposium, as well as several universities in the Midwestern United States. In the summer of 2008 Brian began his on-going collaboration with electronic artist Jason Corder of off the sky, which lead to the creation of the album “Under the Fable of Meaning.”
Brian is a founding member of Lexington, KY based SOUND/VISION, a chamber group with variable instrumentation that specializes in 20th, 21st and original music, mutli-media, and electro-acoustic works, as well as unusual performance venues. The group impetus being the equal presence of visual and aural perspectives in performance.
In 2009 Brian was selected as a “Notable Alumni” of the University of Kentucky (UK) for his professional activities. Brian studied percussion with Jim Campbell at UK and with Steven Schick at UCSD.
